At the Forefront of Medicine

The University of Chicago's Center for Aortic Diseases (UCCAD) is one of the largest aortic programs in the region.  It is the result of a focused effort by the University of Chicago Medicine to offer state-of-the-art care to patients with complex aortic disease.

UCCAD has assembled a world-class group of clinicians and scientists dedicated to the diagnosis and management of complex aortic conditions including:

  • Aortic Valve Disease, including Aortic Stenosis, Aortic Insufficiency, and Bicuspid Aortic Valves
  • Aortic Aneurysms including:
        -  Aortic Root Aneurysms
        -  Ascending Aortic Aneurysms
        -  Aortic Arch Aneurysms
        -  Descending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms
        -  Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysms
        -  Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
  • Aortic Dissections - including Type A Dissections and Type B Dissections
  • Native Aortic and Prosthetic Graft Infections, including Endocarditis
  • Congenital Aortic Disease, such as Marfan's syndrome and Loeys Dietz

To achieve the best outcomes, our clinicians use cutting-edge technologies, including:

  • Endovascular and hybrid approaches
  • Percutaneous and transcatheter valve therapies
  • Minimally invasive aortic surgery
  • Stentless valves
  • Biologic composite grafts
  • Valve repair and valve-sparing aortic roots (aka the David procedure)
  • Advanced cardiopulmonary perfusion techniques for cerebral and spinal cord protection
