Takeyoshi Ota, MD, PhD, has joined the University of Chicago Medicine as the Assistant Director of
the Center for Aortic Diseases and Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Section of Cardiac and Thoracic surgery.

Dr. Ota joins us from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery. He completed his medical education at Kobe University School of Medicine in Japan and his surgical residency at Kobe University Hospitals. He also completed fellowship training in cardiovascular surgery at Kobe University Hospital, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Ota is also a passionate scientist, having authored more than 100 original works in high-impact journals and presented at scientificfic meetings around North America. His research focuses on tissue engineering and advanced robotic technology for cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery and has been supported by grants from the American Heart Association, Uehara Memorial Foundation and Columbia University. Dr. Ota has been honored with several awards for his research endeavors, including the Best Video Presentation and Best Mini-Presentation awards by the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Dr. Ota has demonstrated an unshakable commitment to patients and to the study of aortic diseases over the course of his career. In this way, his care philosophy is in perfect alignment with the UCCAD program and our mission to improve the lives of patients with aortic disease.
